SARA CLAYTON

Sara began dancing at the age of 4 in Harpenden at the Laura Cross School of Dancing (now The Dance Studio Herts), and quickly discovered a love for performing guided by her inspirational teachers. Throughout Sara’s school years, she took part in numerous shows at The Dance Studio, appearing in lead roles, in addition to performing with the English Youth Ballet in their productions of Giselle and Coppeila. During this period, Sara simultaneously attended classes at London’s Central School of Ballet on their Associate Programme which was established for dancers looking to advance to vocational training.

At 16 Sara was accepted by the renowned ‘Tring Park School for the Performing Arts’ to study dance at a vocational standard and was awarded a Scholarship to further her education. There she had the opportunity to perform alongside other Tring Park talent including Lily James, and learn from top industry teachers, choreographers and creatives including Drew McConie, Odette Hughes (Wayne McGregor Random Dance) and Tim Blowfield (Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures). Sara also completed her Trinity Level 5 Diploma in Professional Dance whilst at Tring Park, alongside other academic exams.

Upon graduating, Sara worked professionally as a dancer in the UK, predominantly on the commercial scene. From featuring in music videos (with choreographers such as Del Mak and Kane D Ricca) to dancing at magazine press events (such as the OK! Magazine Press Night for ‘Debbie Moore’s 35th Anniversary of Pineapple Dance Studios’ under the direction of Mark Battershall), Sara’s knowledge of the industry quickly grew and helped establish her on the dance scene. Sara also worked closely with immersive jazz theatre company, UnCorked Theatre. There she featured as Carrie Beckham in their debut London show, ‘How To Solve A Problem Like Murder’. The experience Sara gained performing with UnCorked Theatre, alongside director Christie Lee Manning, provided Sara with an invaluable insight into the performing arts industry, contributing to her overall dance knowledge and is something which she is now able to impart to her dance pupils.

In 2016, Sara joined Runway House’s ‘Power House’ show featuring dancers who now work in some of the top global dance jobs in the world. ‘Power House’ was a collective show choreographed by creatives at the forefront of the dance industry (including Kendrick Sandy, Jonathan Bishop, Rachel Kay, Fabio Fiorillo, Shaun Niles and Stuart Winter to name but a few), which provided Sarawith a wonderful opportunity to learn from the very best, improve her own technique and performance abilities, as well as absorb outstanding directing, coaching and choreography methods to take into her future teaching career.

Subsequently, Sara decided to return to education and attended The Dance College where she completed ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) teaching qualifications in Imperial Classical Ballet and Modern Theatre. She was guided by ISTD examiners, Penny Meekings and Jackie Styles, and achieved high marks in both her practical and written exams.
